The Bachelor Life Science & Technology

The bachelor program Life Science & Technology (LST) is a joint program of Leiden University and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). You benefit from the knowledge and facilities of both universities and receive one diploma upon completion of the study, listing both universities. You combine the disciplines of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology to study the living cell. You learn to understand how the cell is structured and how processes within the cell lead to, for example, health or disease. In this way, applications can be devised to influence the functioning of cells.

At Leiden University, the emphasis is more on fundamental research. Biochemistry is central here, so you learn about genetics, protein folding, DNA/RNA interactions, and therapeutic purposes thereof.

At TU Delft, the emphasis is more on applied research. Biotechnology is central here, so you learn about industrial applications of fermentation, the functioning of enzymes, and the sustainability of certain cellular processes.

Study Advisors

The study advisors of the BSc LST are Elise Caspers and Rosemarijn de Ruiter. They are responsible for providing good advice and information to all bachelor students. You can approach them for all your problems regarding education and questions about exams, your study plan, study delay, university rules, and more. They are happy to advise and assist you with all your questions!

Education Coordinator

The education coordinator of BSc LST is Zarlasht Khorsand. She is responsible for the organization of the bachelor's program. She is also responsible for providing information to students. Program Director

The program director of the BSc LST is Marco van Eijk. He is ultimately responsible for the entire Bachelor LST program. This includes responsibility for the quality, content, and organization of our bachelor's program. Additionally, he formulates policy for the bachelor's program.
