Career

Every academic year S.A. LIFE organizes various career-related activities, in collaboration with different companies in the life science and biotechnology sector.

To give students the opportunity to find internships and discover their possibilities in the job market, S.A. LIFE stimulates students to orientate themselves on different career paths. To help students to get in touch with companies, and sometimes future employers, S.A. LIFE organizes various career-related activities throughout the academic year. Examples of such activities are: lunch lectures, pub lectures, case evenings, excursions, study trips and a company dinner. An overview of career-related activities can be found in upcoming events.

For companies

S.A. LIFE organizes various career-related activities during the academic year. The organization of such activities is aimed at our more than 750 members and their orientation towards various opportunities in the job market. Examples of such activities are: lunch lectures, pub lectures, case evenings, excursions, study trips and a company dinner. For the realization of career-related activities, S.A. LIFE collaborates with various companies, within the field of life science and biotechnology. However, LIFE does not limit itself to just companies within the aforementioned sectors. We also enter into partnerships with companies outside these sectors, an example of which is the consultancy sector.

The bachelor Life Science & Technology is a study program revolving around the living cell. It is a bachelor’s program that differs from others, in that all science subjects, (micro)biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, come in a strongly combined range. The collaboration between Leiden University and Delft University of Technology offers both fundamental and applied research. At Leiden University, students learn a lot regarding fundamental cell processes and therapeutic purposes for diseases. At Delft University of Technology, students learn a lot about the applied biotechnology of the cell, concepts like fermentation, downstream processing and metabolic reprogramming are taught. By applying these different disciplines, the fundamental versus the applied research, on the living cell, our students are highly interdisciplinary trained and are able to communicate with experts from different fields. LST students are therefore interdisciplinary, flexible and socially skilled.

There are various choices for the master Life Science & Technology. Within the Leiden master’s program, there are four tracks students can choose: Research and Development, Business Studies, Communication and Society and Education. Within the Delft master’s program, there are three tracks students can choose: Cell Factory, Biocatalysis and Biochemical Engineering. The Leiden master tracks focus on fundamental research, while the Delft master tracks deepen into applied biotechnology. The fact that many master students follow several tracks at the same time, shows the interdisciplinary and curious character LST students are known for.
